This Rolex watch is in vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in good condition with some scratches and wear, it appears to have been polished. The bezel shows wear and has scratches. The pip in the bezel is a later replacement. The dial is clean with light patina. The hands are later service replacements that still glow. The lume on the dial has aged to an attractive off white, marshmallow color. The bracelet has stretch between the links and shows wear and scratches.

The 16800 is referred to as a transitional model by collectors. Rolex went from acrylic to sapphire crystal, an updated movement with quick-set date, and at the beginning of the run the watches featured matte dials like the previous 1680. Later in the production Rolex changed the dials to glossy with white gold surrounds. These are known as transitional models due to the blend of older and new features Rolex decided to use together. These early 16800s with matte dials are the perfect mix of vintage styling with modern touches like the sapphire glass and quick-set date.

Watch was in condition as pictured and described. Some major dents and scuffs on the bracelet/end-link were hidden well by the lighting but were very noticeable in person. Overall the watch was in great shape for the age.

I’ve bought multiple modern pieces from Bob’s and had a great experience every time. I’ve been looking to buy a birth year Rolex for awhile now and for me, that’s a late production run 16800. Couldn’t be happier with the watch and for those out there looking for a Sub, you should seriously consider the 16800. It has some great “modern” features, but holds true to a more vintage feel and elegance. Incredibly comfortable on the wrist and will undoubtedly continue to grow in value in my opinion. It’s a can’t miss buy all the way around.
