Serial and reference numbers are clearly legible. Acrylic crystal is in clean condition and shows micro nicks on the outer rim. |

This Rolex watch is in overall great vintage condition. The case is in great condition with scratches and wear, it has been polished. The bezel ring has remained sharp and the bezel insert has faded pretty evenly to a beautiful grey color throughout. The crown is a later "trip-lock" service replacement and shows some wear. In certain lights the bezel has a blueish hue to it. The pip at 12 is a later replacement. The dial and hands are in excellent condition with light patina. The lume in the minute hand has two tiny pin-holes. The lume in the hands and on the dial has aged to a matching off white, creamy color. The bracelet is a later solid link replacement and is in overall good condition with wear and light stretch.

Rolex introduced the reference 1680 around 1969 and it was in production until roughly 1979. This was the first Submariner to feature the date function and Rolex still offers date and no-date models to this day. This example has the word "Submariner" written in red text and collectors refer to these as the "Red Submariner." Rolex did this until around 1975 and then they switched to all white text. Collectors tend to gravitate towards these Red Subs and we have seen demand increase significantly in the last couple years.
Collectors have identified six different red Submariner dial variations and this watch features a Mark IV matte black dial. The Mark IV dial is distinguished by the feet first depth rating with open 6s that and red Submariner text on top of white. When looking at the red text closely you can see the white behind/ sticking out which is common for these. This watch has aged beautifully over the years from the creamy white lume to the evenly faded "Ghost bezel," this Sub has decidedly vintage vibe to it.
