This watch is in overall great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in great condition with some scratches and wear, it appears to have been polished. The bezel and case have some nicks on the edges. The tip of the five o'clock lug has some wear and scratches. The bezel is in great condition with some wear and some of the paint in the numbers show wear. The dial and hands are in excellent condition with light patina. The lume in the hands and on the dial have all aged to a matching custard yellow color. The hands have developed light patina. The orange 24 hour hand has remained vibrant in color. The bracelet is in great condition with some scratches and light wear throughout; it has some light stretch between the links.

The 1655 Explorer is instantly recognizable from its bright orange 24 hour hand and steel 24 hour bezel. Rolex came out with this model in 1971 and it was specifically made for cave explorers. The purpose of the orange 24 hour hand is to help the wearer distinguish day vs night in environments where this isn't easily noticeable, like in a cave with complete darkness.
This example is in overall great condition and has aged beautify. From the custard colored lume to the vibrant orange 24 hour hand, this watch really pops. For a long time these 1655's were overshadowed by other Rolex sport models, but interest has gone up and we see many collectors seeking them out. Collectors tend to gravitate towards this model due to the striking and unique appearance compared to other Rolex models. This is a model we recommend to people who want a vintage Rolex, but are looking for something a bit different.
