Tissot 101

History

Tissot has a rich history that started in 1853 when Charles Félicien Tissot founded the company with his son Charles-Emile in the Swiss city of Le Locle. Tissot initially produced reliable, gold-cased pocket watches and the brand quickly built a strong reputation all around the world. Merging with Omega in 1930, the two companies formed what would ultimately become the Swatch Group, following a second merger that took place in 1983. Now consisting of 18 different brands that produce watches that cover a wide range of different price segments and styles, the Swatch Group represents the world’s largest watchmaking company with Tissot still a proud and prominent member.

To this day, Tissot remains located in its hometown of Le Locle, which is the third smallest city in Switzerland and located in the Neuchâtel area of the Jura Mountains. Tissot’s modern catalog spans a remarkably diverse range of Swiss-made timepieces, including everything from classically-styled dress watches with solid 18k gold cases to modern and sporty automatic chronographs that pay tribute to the brand’s racing heritage.
