This Rolex watch is in overall excellent condition with minor wear to the clasp and bracelet. The dial and hands are later service replacements that still glow because of the Super Luminova luminous material.

The 16550 Rolex Explorer II marked the first instance of a sapphire crystal within the collection. It was also the first 40mm reference, making the ref. 16550 somewhat of a transitional Rolex. An upgrade from the ref. 1655, the ref. 16550 also received a thinner 24-hour hand and the now-iconic Rolex sports watch dial configuration that includes Mercedes hands and circle, baton, and inverted triangle hour markers. The Explorer II 16550 wristwatch is still fitted with a fixed 24-hour bezel and is presented in all-steel. The edition that you see here today is a very desirable variation that also features a striking black dial.
