This Rolex watch is in overall very good condition with surface wear to the bracelet, case and bezel. The case and bracelet show signs of polishing. The bezel shows some wear and some of the black paint in the bezel has worn away. The dial and hands are later replacements and still glow because of the Super Luminova luminous material. The hands have developed some patina. The bracelet is a later replacement and shows stretch and wear.

The 16550 Rolex Explorer II marked the first instance of a sapphire crystal within the collection. It was also the first 40mm reference, making the ref. 16550 somewhat of a transitional Rolex. An upgrade from the ref. 1655, the ref. 16550 also received a thinner 24-hour hand and the now-iconic Rolex sports watch dial configuration that includes Mercedes hands and circle, baton, and inverted triangle hour markers. The Explorer II 16550 wristwatch is still fitted with a fixed 24-hour bezel and is presented in all-steel. The edition that you see here today is a very desirable variation that also features a striking black dial.
