New Oris Watch Releases from Watches and Wonders Geneva

Paul Altieri

Among the multitude of new releases that were unveiled this week at the Watches and Wonders Geneva digital event are a handful of new Oris watches that will join the brand’s lineup for 2021. Although Oris was most certainly one of the brands participating in this year’s coordinated digital event, the Hölstein-based watch manufacturer decided not to release a whole slew of new models, and instead took the opportunity to primarily showcase some key new additions to its two dive watch collections.

Despite being a relatively concise batch of new releases, the new Oris models announced this week at Watches and Wonders are quite diverse. The three new releases span three different case materials and range from an ultra-professional model intended for serious professional saturation divers to colorful and playful renditions of its highly popular and vintage-inspired Divers Sixty-Five series.

Oris Aquis

Last year, Oris unveiled its all-new generation of in-house movements, which significantly improved upon the metrics offered by the standard off-the-shelf calibers that the brand has historically used for the majority of its watches. Debuting as the Caliber 400, Oris’s new mechanical engine is highly antimagnetic, offers users a 5-day power reserve, and comes with both a 10-year warranty and a 10-year recommended service interval. The movement initially debuted inside one of Oris’s standard Aquis models, but it was clearly stated then that this new-generation of in-house movements would later make its way into other models from the brand’s catalog.

Among the new Oris watches for 2021 is the AquisPro Date Caliber 400, which takes the overall design of the brand’s flagship Aquis collection and upgrades it with a number of advanced professional dive watch features. With a 1,000-meter depth rating, the new Oris AquisPro Date is more than capable of accompanying you on quite literally any diving adventure, and the brand’s proprietary Rotation Safety System allows users to lock the bezel, virtually eliminating the possibility of it accidentally getting knocked out of place. With a DLC-coated titanium case, a ceramic bezel, andthe in-house Cal. 400 movement, the new Oris AquisPro Date is an unapologetically modern dive watch with the brand’s latest and greatest movement technologies.

Oris Divers Sixty-Five

While the new AquisPro Date Caliber 400 leans heavily in the modern direction in terms of its overall aesthetics and features, offering borderline excessive performance metrics for those that require the utmost capabilities from their modern and professionally oriented underwater timepiece, the new Oris Divers Sixty-Five ‘Cotton Candy’ series takes the core design of the brand’s highly popular, vintage-inspired dive watch collection and renders it a unique and colorful manner that is arguably the most playful new release found at this year’s Watches and Wonders online event.

While the standard time-and-date models from the Divers Sixty-Five collection are offered in 36mm, 40mm, and 42mm case sizes, the new Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy watches feature intentionally-unisex 38mm cases constructed from solid bronze and fitted with matching bronze bezels. Available in three dial colors that are named sky blue, wild green, and lipstick pink, the new Divers Sixty-Five ‘Cotton Candy’ models are available with the option of either a leather strap or a matching full-bronze bracelet. As to why the Swiss watchmaker has chosen “Cotton Candy” as the inspiration for these new colorful Divers Sixty-Five models, Oris simply states, “Because these are watches designed to bring warmth and the optimism of better times.”

In addition to producing timepieces that are widely considered to offer some of the best value for the money within the entire Swiss luxury watch industry, Oris also has a strong history of producing limited-edition models that help support environmental conservation efforts all over the globe. Typically based upon the Oris Aquis platform, these watches are just one part of the brand’s ‘Change for the Better’ campaign, which aims to preserve our planet and improve people’s lives. The brand’s latest model that promotes awareness of the damages caused to our planet’s waterways is the Oris Aquis Dat Watt Limited Edition, which aims to help save the Wadden Sea – the world’s largest unbroken tidal flat system, located directly above the Netherlands.

The watch itself features a 43.5mm stainless steel case with the Aquis’s signature integrated bracelet. Similar to other Oris Aquis models, the new Dat Watt Limited Edition is fitted with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal (with anti-reflective treatment) and a unidirectional rotating timing bezel with a ceramic insert, but unlike the majority of the standard time-and-date Oris Auqis models, the new Dat Watt Limited Edition also features a unique moonphase complication with an integrated tidal flow chart, which is indicated by an additional centrally-mounted hand that points to the current phase of the moon – similar to how Oris’s pointer date function works on many of its other watches. Production of the new Oris Aquis Dat Watt Limited Edition will be limited to 2,009 examples worldwide, which is a reference to the year that the Wadden Sea became a UNESCO World Heritage site.
